BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Before we can offer you driving lessons, you will need a Learner Permit. If you do not have one, you will need to fill out an application and go to the DMV with the following documents to show proof of identity. Understanding the process is important. That’s why we are here to help walk you through the process to make sure you are prepared and ready to pass your road test. Permits are valid for approximately 5 years (the exact expiration date depends on your date of birth and the date that you apply). You must be 16 years or older to apply.

Steps to Get a Driver License

  1. Determine what license class and type you need. (Driver, Motorcycle, Commercial Driver, Taxi/livery)

  2. Get a learner permit. Before you can get a license, you must apply for a learner permit at DMV office and take the written test

  3. After you pass your written test, you’ll receive a learner permit. Practice driving and take a pre-licensing course

  4. Pass a road test.

At a DMV office

  1. Bring. Your application. Your proofs of identity, age, and residence

  2. Take the written test (if you fail, do not worry! – you can try again at no additional cost)

  3. If you pass your written test. You will receive a temporary permit at the office.

  4. Come to Elite Driving School of Long Island, Inc. and choose a package to start taking lessons at your convenience.

If you want to study for the written test, you will need to read the driver’s manual and take practice tests.
